Bike In Manhattan: Meet The Big Apple

Today, the bike is used increasingly in large cities as a means of transport. From our blog we are going to propose a fast, practical and inexpensive way to meet large cities such as Paris, London, Amsterdam, Seville; or as it is the case with the entrance today, Manhattan.

The island of Manhattan is one of five metropolitan districts which, along with Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island are the city of New York. Withmore than one million and half of inhabitants and a surface of only 87 square kilometers, Manhattan concentrates most of the tourist attractions of the city.

Despite the voluminous traffic, and the constant stress of its inhabitants, which you do not afraid “The Big Apple”, is completely flat and has more than 40 km of bike lanes.

Then I Propose The Route That I Kept On My Visit To This Impressive City.

You can see the layout of our tour through Manhattan in the attached map.

We set the starting point in the vicinity of Central Park (No. 1). Here you have several places to rent a bike for hours both days. Two of the most prominent are: Central Park Bike Tours and Central Park Bike Rental where you can rent your bike from about $ 40 a day. In the latter, you’ll have a special price if you do prior a reservation online (centralparkbikerental.org).

Our day begins in the Park, here you have many options, choose which you like. The most practical is to follow the road inland since it surrounds the park up to the neighborhood of Harlem through its famous lakes. In the lung of New York, you will see many people bike riding, running, skating… There are many areas to rest, eat, other sports and give food to the most famous inhabitants of this park: squirrels.

We left Central Park on Broadway towards Times Square (No. 2), where we saw firsthand the great contrast between the Park and the city.

Turn to the right at the height of 42nd Street to go to Hudson River (No. 3) where we take the track bike that runs along the Bay that we’ll take to the South of Manhattan.

Once we reach the height of Battery Park (No. 4), we propose two options. In either of the two will pass very close to the 9/11 Memorial (No. 5) where some huge fonts replace The unforgettable twin towers. The price of admission is voluntary, although they suggest you a minimum of $ 5 and your visit lasts an hour approximately.

The first option is for the risers or for those who want to extend their visit. It’s follow the track bike that will take us to the point to the South of the island.Once there, take the Ferry to Staten Island (No. 6) which works 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is completely free and only $3 can travel with our bike. The main attraction of this ferry is to closely see the statue of liberty and also be able to enjoy unbeatable views of Wall Street.

Back in Manhattan continue rail bike to the Brooklyn Bridge, one of the icons of the city.

The second option consists in going directly from the Hudson River to the Brooklyn Bridge (it is well sign-posted).

The Brooklyn Bridge (No. 7) is crowded and, while it has a bike path, I advise that you take it you calmly, is worth enjoying the Skyline of Manhattan to the other side of the bridge.

Once there, can go to one of the best valued by travellers: the Brooklyn Height Promenade.

We return to Manhattan and our path continues northwards parallel to the East River, always by the bike path, which we left at the height of the 34th Street to pass next to the Empire State (No. 8). Then we’ll turn right by the 6th Avenue to cross the center of Manhattan and finally reach our point of departure,Central Park.
