Ciclovia Rio Pinheiros: Expansion, New Access And Lighting

Other considerations this page remain correct and relevant

The Pinheiros River bike trail has enormous potential as an alternative of mobility in the town, for several reasons. The bike shift occurs even faster than usual, by completely flat topography and the absence of intersections and traffic lights; to protect the rider from the heavy traffic of cars, the trip becomes quite safe, even for those just starting out; your route passes through several neighborhoods on the South side, with the potential to reach the West. If we had bike lanes on two thugs then we would have easy, fast and secure access to much of the city.

What we have right now, it’s just a bike path, which does not help in practically anything in the offsets of type commuting, how to go to work, to school, to his girlfriend. It works only during the day and has just three hits, one of them being quite near one end. These accesses are more than a dozen kilometers from each other and with no other way out in the middle way. If you don’t live near one end of the bike path and you don’t work together, are unlikely to be able to put it in your – route and even if he does, she will be closed when you need to get home after work.

The most obvious, cheap, efficient and correct would be access terms on all bridges. Cyclists usually reach the Marginal by any avenue that crosses the river by a bridge; going on a down access to the bike path, problem solved, both for those who are on one side of the River as the other. Distant access bridges would make many cyclists pedal for a Marginal until you reach them, being badly received by drivers, which would put them at risk. In addition, in the bike lane on the road called bridges, allowing capture and distribute cyclists along your file extension.

Who uses the bicycle as transportation doesn’t go out to ride the bike path, out to go somewhere. If she is not part of his way, or is not accessible without a large deviation, will not be used. For now, the bike path nor helps protect cyclists who already use the marginal daily and even encourages people to exchange the car for the bike, since few can use it in their daily shifts and, while no new hits, she’s still serving even leisure.

Cross at the opening of the bicycle path, in February 2010, the then State Secretary of Metropolitan Transport, Jose Luiz Portella, announced: we “four hits quickly”. Jose Serra complemented these hits would be provided by private companies. Already there was also a promise to expand it until the Jaguare. But Sierra is no longer Governor, Paul was replaced and the bike path plus.

In October 2010, the newspapers said that the expansion until the Jaguaré would later that year and that there would be four more hits until February 2011. These hits would be walkways and metal structures, unrelated to the existing viaducts. To integrate the bike path to the bridges, the CPTM little can do without the cooperation and support of CET and SIURB.

But this delay ended up being advantageous: the project was revised and new access roads and support points will be built. Follow below.

Works started: expanding access and should be out soon

If the new deadlines have been met, the situation should improve soon. The reader Peter Peron informed us on email “are already installing the yellow balconies olimpia village, leaving the station towards the City Garden” and that “also started to build a ramp to the bike path along the Santo Amaro da CPTM station”. It seems that now it’s for real.

To the end of 2011

Currently has 14 km of extension, the Pinheiros River bike path will win more 6.4 km to the Villa Lobos station-Jaguare. According to the diary of Sao Paulo, the new stretch should be ready by the end of the year. By the end of 2011 should be created also three more hits: bridge City, Morumbi station and Santo Amaro station. New points will also be inaugurated.

Access on the bridge university town will be implemented the way it should be done in every path bridges: a footbridge linking the bridge to the bike path. An example, demonstrating your success, convenience and frequency of use, can serve as a model for the other. And the best: will allow USP students using bike in and out of the bike lane at a point very close to the campus,

In Morumbi and Santo Amaro, the hits are the result of adjustments internal to the catwalk mezzanine of the seasons, with ramps to facilitate the offset with the bike. These two entry points show the goodwill of the CPTM in facilitating access to the bike path, providing them inside their stations and offering themselves to repair them to allow the cyclist to reach the bike path that way.

The interim support point that there was at the time of Santo Amaro station is in reforms and should become permanent, like the other two, at the tips of the bike path, with coverage, bathrooms, water fountains, space for changing tires and bicycle maintenance. With this same structure, three other new points will be deployed at the height of Garden City, University City and Jaguare-Villa Lobos, totaling six points with good support infrastructure in 20 km the bike path will have.

First half of 2012

For the first half of 2012, plus two hits: one in the people’s Park, near the ponte Cidade Jardim, and another in Villa Lobos Park, which will be the new ” ” tip expanded bike path. Both accesses are runways of exclusive use of bicyclists.

These hits represent direct connections with the Bikelane, facilitating access for those who want to use the bike path to walk on Sunday. More kids knowing the Pinheiros River up close, which is great: who’s going to build the future must know this, seeing the situation and understand where will stop the garbage falls on the street. And realizing that, despite everything, the nature resists: Besides the Capybaras, there are herons, queros, woodpeckers and other birds living there.

For 2012, is also provided for lighting for bicycle paths, allowing finally to be used during the night. And the best is that this lighting will use clean energy. 764 poles will be installed with LED lamps, more than 30 watts power, with wind turbines for wind and solar collectors capture.

The innovative system was developed by technicians of the CPTM, who tested in the last three months a prototype installed near the station Jurubatuba. At the top of the pole is placed the wind turbine, device that works like an electrical generator integrated with axis of a pinwheel. Just below, is attached to tray for solar capture. Each post is, therefore, a stand-alone station and self-sufficient, need not be connected to the electric grid.

With these changes, access to the bike path will improve a lot. The Pine River bike trail has everything to become important part of mobility by bicycle in the city, it just needs to become more accessible and work until later, at least until the 9:00 pm.

Suggestions motorists who drive in Sao Paulo have signs that help them find the way to get in the main districts of the city. It would be interesting to have, within the bike path, similar signage for cyclists: next to each output, there could be an indication that the cyclist neighborhoods accesses out there.

Similarly, outside of the bike path, there could be signs indicating the nearest entrance. There are today many cyclists who travel by the very marginal. Signs indicating the accesses, and avenues of the region, would help encourage them to take the safer course.

Except where stated, the information is of own CPTM
