Understand Once the Ciclorrota of Brooklyn, in Sao Paulo

The Ciclorrota implemented by the company of Sao Paulo traffic engineering (CET) in the region of Brooklyn, in Sao Paulo, drew attention from cyclists, drivers and the press. The comments of the stories sometimes make them look like a harmless measure. But is it?

The Ciclorrota is implemented in a critical region, where the main avenues are narrow, with fast traffic and bus lanes. There are practically no side streets bordering the avenues they could become intuitive paths for cyclists who do not know well the region.

Alternative routes are interrupted and, for the most part, unknown. What the CET did was signal and make safer these routes, so that cyclists passing through the recognize and use, rather than take a chance on the main roads.

Signaling legitimizes the presence of road bike and encourages sharing and respect. That’s what the rider more precise. The cost is extremely lower than that of cycle tracks segregated, no reduction in the space for the car and, as we could see, implementation time is much shorter.
